The Physiatrist
The Physiatrist (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation)
is a physician specializing in treatment and rehabilitation
of
disorders of the muscle, nerves, and joints. The Physiatrist's
diagnostic ability and dedication to maximizing the patient's
recovery through state of the art rehabilitation techniques
is unique in medicine today.
The Physiatrists of SOAR are pioneers in the national development
of non-operative musculoskeletal care. The numerous faculty
assignments are a testament to the Physiatry Group's dedication
to the pursuit of excellence. The History of SOAR
SOAR was established
in 1981 and was originally located in Portola
Valley. The practice outgrew that facility and is now located
in
Redwood City close to Stanford University and Sequoia Hospitals.
It is
located at 500 Arguello Street with easy access to Interstates
280 and
101 (Whipple Avenue exit). We offer a unique combination
of surgical
and non-surgical specialists working as one integrated
medical team.
This team approach enables you to receive the specialized
care you
need, including review and input from the other SOAR physicians.
You
will become part of the team along with the staff, and
we encourage
your active participation in all phases of your care. Our
combined
efforts will lead you to appropriate treatment and hopefully
return you
to optimal activity in the shortest time.
SOAR's unique delivery of medical care has been recognized
by many bay
area teams and institutions including the San Francisco
49'ers,
San
Francisco Giants, United States Olympic
competitors, Stanford
University and Santa Clara University, plus many local professional,
college, and high school sports programs.
We are committed to continuing medical education and academic
developments that keep up at the forefront of musculoskeletal
medicine.
Our second office is in San Jose just off the Winchester
exit of
Interstate 280. The Redwood City office is considered the "home
location" and is the site for medical records, scheduling,
general
accounting, and administration. The San Jose location is
a smaller,
clinically based facility. The patient accounting department
is also in
the San Jose building. Several of the physicians have regularly
scheduled office time in San Jose in addition to Redwood
City. The
physiatrists perform diagnostic and therapeutic blocks at
Waverley
Surgery Center in Palo Alto.
